2011-2014 Capital Funds Campaign

A Word from our Campaign Chairwoman:
Five years ago we joyously celebrated our 175th anniversary as a Methodist congregation in Freehold. Our long history makes us special, but also gives us a church building and parsonage that are old and in need of constant repair. In addition, we would like to make improvements that will enhance our worship program. Our regular budget is not sufficient to cover these expenses which brings us to the need for a Capital Funds Campaign. Please join me in supporting this campaign that will “build our bridge to the future” with a well-maintained building that supports our worship needs.

The book of Hebrews reminds us: "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." (Hebrews 12:1) We have been blessed to know personally some of those witnesses. As we walk around our building we are reminded of many of them: The Marshall W. Errickson room, the Elizabeth Oakley library, Mac and Helen Clark kitchen, and the cross and flame in our sanctuary made by Otto Strauss. We do have a legacy to honor!
But like the book of Hebrews states, we do not remain in the past, the cloud of witnesses encourages us to throw off everything that hinders us and run with perseverance the race marked out for us. We have received great examples from the saints that have preceded us. It is our turn to move our church into the great future that God has planned for us. Therefore let us cross the bridge to the future. We accept our challenge full of hope because we have heard the word of God spoken through the prophet Jeremiah: "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

A NEW SPACE FOR FELLOWSHIP - forThe area outside the sanctuary is known as Fellowship Hall — but it’s too small for a coffee hour! Improving and enlarging the current space to make room for a coffee bar and seating area would encourage us to catch up with our friends after worship and get to know some new ones! This would be accomplished by removing the wall between the Oakley library and existing small office and redesigning the whole space for enjoyable post-worship gathering and “coffee hour”. The new area would be renamed “Oakley Hall”.....estimate $25,000

WORSHIP ENHANCEMENTS - A permanent projector and screen for the sanctuary has been a long-time dream of many who worship with us. Our current temporary screen and projector must be set up and dismantled each week and does not provide the rich experience that many more modern churches are able to offer. It is time to take a step into the twenty-first century by offering an alternate worship experience to those families who are increasingly asking for it! ……………...……..estimate $10,000

NEEDED REPAIRS - There are a number of repairs that need to be made to our buildings that just can’t wait and are outside our current operating budget capabilities. These include repairs to the entrances to the church, gutter improvements, removal off the old garage and re-pointing of the stained glass windows in the sanctuary. It’s also time for a new roof and repairs to the parsonage. In addition, we want to add a pitched roof over the current flat roof on the education wing to stop the leaking. Repayment of a loan for the church steeple repairs must be made to the Christian Education escrow account so that ministry is not negatively affected and lastly, the church sign on the front lawn could use an up-date — we want to let the world know we are proud to be United Methodists in Freehold!............estimate $122,500

IMPROVED FACILITIES - While there is a clean and attractive bathroom behind the sanctuary for our worshipers, families and children visiting our downstairs education wing are faced with worn-out and unappealing facilities. Renovating these two bathrooms has been on the Trustees “wish list” for many years. We will also finish the painting of the hallways in the education wing....….estimate $22.500

Frequently Asked Questions
|
Q. Why do we need to make these repairs and changes now?
A. Our church has been in need of repairs and updating for quite some time — delaying the work only makes it costlier. We want to be good stewards of our facilities ; upgrading and maintaining our building will make it appealing to newcomers and visitors and enrich our worship experience. We look forward to carrying on the tradition of faithful stewardship that our predecessors showed in their loving care for our buildings so that future generations may be blessed by our ministry in Freehold.
Q. How will I know how much to give?
A. Pray about your gift to the campaign and allow God to open your heart and direct your commitment.
Q. How should I give?
A. A one-time gift may be made to the campaign or a pledge to be spread out over the three-year period of the program. You may choose to give weekly, quarterly, or even once a year. Please elect the best schedule for you and your family.
Q. What about my regular giving?
A. Your commitment to the campaign should be an amount God leads you to give over and above your regular title and offerings. We must maintain our giving to the operating budget so that day-to-day church operations will be unaffected.
Q. Will my pledge be made public?
A. Absolutely not! Only the total amount of all commitments will be publicized.
Q. What if we don’t raise all the money needed?
A. The church Board of Trustees has a “priority list” of projects that it will use to determine which projects get worked on and when, based on cost and urgency.
