Ministries Education
The education committee coordinates Christian education programs for children age 2 through high school seniors and adults.
Classes meet Sundays, from September through June, at 9:30 am at the church The program is powered by teacher volunteers. In most settings, teacher volunteers share responsibilities or teach in a team. Gifted teachers are always needed and welcome. Gail Davala is the current Education Chairperson and may be reached at davalag1(at)optonline.net. The Fellowship & Outreach Committee is responsible for organizing and coordinating our opportunities for Christian fellowship. The committee meets quarterly or more often if needed, especially when an event is scheduled. They have successfully put together family game nights, coordinated Christmas caroling to our shut-ins and had a very successful karaoke night. Fellowship and Outreach is responsible for holiday get-togethers, such as Hanging of the Greens, receptions for confirmands, open house Septembers, and a wonderful progressive dinner this year, that we are sure to repeat.
Some of our future plans include, a chili cook off, a pasta party with a variety of sauces to please everyone's palette, and an Oktoberfest. If you would like more information about joining Fellowship & Outreach or are interested in seeing a particular event happen, please call the church office at (732) 462-1745 or e-mail fholdumc(at)aol.com.
Missions, Church, and SocietyThe missions committee responsibilities include deciding who will receive our monthly communion offerings, deciding what missions projects our congregation should support and informing the congregation about the projects, keeping the congregation aware of special projects of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), and assuring our continued support for the Open Door Food Pantry, Amistad, and Habitat for Humanity. In the recent past we have helped with peace vigils, hung 1000+ paper cranes in Fellowship Hall to honor the victims of 9/11,2001, collected both back-to-school supplies and also Christmas gifts for Amistad children (including a Spanish New Testament for each one), established a prayer board in the back of the sanctuary, supported missionaries in Japan, and highlighted Advance Specials of UMCOR. We hope to plan more projects as needs arise. We would be glad to support mission trips for work projects either here in the U.S. or in other countries as our congregation has done in the past as these are brought to our attention.
