Our Music Program
The musicians at First United Methodist Church have a great love of music and take much pride in bringing it to the congregation and beyond. Some of our musicians are professional, but there is a place in our music ministry for all skill-levels. Our worship services feature a blend of various musical styles.
Major musical works that the senior choir has sung include: Faure's Requiem, Handel's Messiah (Christmas portion), Saint Saen's Christmas Oratorio, Schubert's "Mass in G," Dubois' Seven Last Words, Vivaldi's Gloria and Stainer's Crucifixion, as well as several other shorter contemporary seasonal works. Special programs include collaborations with other choirs for ecumenical and interfaith musical events.
Choir Rehearsal: The choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings on the stage of Wesley Hall from September through May.
Summer choir: In the summer we have a "pick-up" choir, which rehearses at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings prior to worship.
Joyful Noise Praise Team
Our weekly worship service is lead by our choir and our praise band, Joyful Noise. Led by Ken Budka, Joyful Noise includes guitars, electric bass, flute, violin, drums, and an assortment of other instruments. Music selections range from spirituals to contemporary Christian hits. Children are often invited to participate, and all are welcome to join regardless of skill level. Bring your voice or instrument to warm-up with the band in the sanctuary on Sundays at 9:00 a.m.
The group also plays at local festivals and hosts special concerts and shows for the community.
