“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.” Philippians 4:4
Are you experiencing Joy as we approach another Christmas celebration? For some of us, the answer is “yes”. But for others of us, we may be too stressed or overwhelmed to find Joy with so much happening and so much to do! The apostle Paul urges us to rejoice in the Lord always. Yet, how can we rejoice if we aren’t finding Joy?
Paul’s message isn’t reserved for those who have it all together this season. Paul’s message is a call to take a step back and lean on God in all times and all seasons. Paul goes on to write, “The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” We can take a step back from our worries and take time to rejoice because the Lord is near and God is with us!
In busy seasons like this, it’s important that we take “timeouts” to refocus ourselves on Christ’s presence and Christ’s promises. Life is not easy, but we can overcome all obstacles because God promises to be with us, even in the midst of our mess. We may not feel so joyful all the time, but we have this beautiful truth for which we give thanks and praise: God is with us! May we look to God for Peace and Joy in this season and offer to God all of our worries. Don’t let this Christmas steal away your Joy. Instead, may this Christmas fill you with such Joy that others may see Christ in you.
